Floating Island

Floating Island

Eric Beker french entrepreneur built a floating island resort just off the Ivory Coast that is being held up only by plastic waste. “L’île Flottante” located in Abidjan in the middle of the lagoon, the floating island was designed around the recycling of floating waste, as a place of calm and nature.

Hotel island is made of 800,000 plastic bottles, tied together with craftsmanship built the hotel, a restaurant, a pool, & a karaoke bar from trash on top of the water. Island weighs around over 200 tons, has its solar energy, equipment to turn waste into fertilizers & receives fresh water supply from the mainland since the lagoon is very close to Ivory Coast’s capital, Abidjan.

Guests need to pay $100 if they want to stay the night, and $25 for a day trip, which includes a meal.

“What’s great about this concept is that we’re turning something negative — pollution from plastic bottles — into something positive,” says Eric Becker. He inspired the locals, created jobs, taught them about recycling.

CYK Hospitality is inspired by the concept and wanted to share the inspirations with our readers.
